If you want to be one of the first on the High Sierra bandwagon, we recommend doing a clean install rather than upgrading. This requires that you have High Sierra, a USB stick of 8 GB or more and a tool that turns the USB stick into a bootable installation drive.

1. First download High Sierra from the App Store. Search for "High Sierra" and close the installer, which will automatically start after the download is complete.
2. Next, insert the USB stick and Disk Creator shoult then be installed on the USB drive.
3. Open Disk Creator and select the USB drive to be used for the purpose. Everything will be erased from the drive, so make sure you have backed up what you need. Make sure the installer has selected High Sierra as the installer. Then click "Create Installer". It takes 10 - 20 minutes.
4. When the process is complete, restart the Mac and hold down Option (⌥) during startup. Select the USB drive and install High Sierra from scratch. Be sure you have a backup of everything you don't want to lose.

If Disk Creator comes up with an error, it may be necessary to format the USB drive manually with Disk Utility.

It's always best to update software, firmware and drivers when you have time to test thoroughly before the next big job or live production. In Copenhagen Streaming we don't update unless we have two weeks to test before the next live streaming of an event.
