Live streaming

What does live streaming mean?

Live streaming defined

We often explain live streaming as "TV over the web". Live streaming is Broadcast live video contentsuch as meetings, video games, sporting events or product launches, via the internet.

Businesses use live streaming to communicate directly with employees and customers. Unlike pure physical events, live streaming allows a business to digitally reach and interact with an unlimited audience.

When we at Copenhagen Streaming livestream meetings and events for companies, the cost typically starts at DKK 50,000. We have an introductory offer for new customers for 39,500 kr. You can get more information about prices and packages here.

Many possibilities with live streaming

Live streaming offers companies new opportunities compared to traditional in-person events. This is especially true if your employees are geographically dispersed across multiple departments.

When your company communicates professionally via live streaming, you remove the geographical barrier that naturally occurs in most large organizations. One of the obvious benefits of live streaming is that it allows you to improve communication between employees who would otherwise not be able to easily be present in the same room. In addition, live streaming allows you to improve communication with your customers and partners by making it more direct and frequent.

Live streaming offers your business an incredible range of opportunities. Among other things, it allows you to:

  • Host hybrid meetings
  • Host physical townhalls with a digital layer
  • Host online conferences
  • Train employees
  • Run digital webinars
  • Keep business partners frequently updated

Live streaming is good communication

Live streaming is a technology that has been freely available for over two decades. For businesses to take full advantage of this technology, you need to turn your communication into well-produced content. We are experts in the technology behind live streaming and how to make your communication work for town halls, meetings, webinars and quarterly reports. In short, in live streaming, as in many other areas, good communication is a product of thorough preparation and good execution.

We have the skills to execute secure live streaming tailored to you. Copenhagen Streaming works closely with your communications department to support your company's communication.

Communication is the key word, because with streaming you have many opportunities to support and improve communication internally and externally in your business. With live streaming, you can improve communication with your customers and business partners by making it direct and more frequent.

Live streaming means efficient meetings

As mentioned, livestreaming gives you a lot of options, and for any business, options equals benefits. While you can of course also organize events in the physical world with attendees present, live streaming allows you to do it all in a much more convenient way.

With live streaming, you can host an event exactly when and where you need it. In a short period of time, you can put together a meeting or other event and reach many more people than you could if you don't have access to live streaming.

You can also easily host a large town hall or other large meeting without having to spend a lot of resources and energy on venue hire, catering and so on. Plus, you save your employees from spending unnecessary hours on transportation.

We help you get started with live streaming

If you want to learn more about the benefits of live streaming for your business, we can help you get started. Whether your business needs live streaming for meetings, town halls, quarterly reports or something else entirely, we have prices and packages to suit your needs.

Companies use live streaming in many ways to communicate with their employees and investors or to promote their products or services and build their brand. Specifically, live streaming is often used to:

  • Events: Companies use live streaming to broadcast meetings, conferences, trade shows and other events to reach employees, for example, if employees are geographically dispersed from the head office.
  • Investor relations: If the company is publicly listed, the communications department often chooses to accommodate international investors by live-streaming their investor calls. This typically takes place in connection with quarterly reports, capital market days and general meetings.
  • Marketing: Businesses use live streaming to promote their brand, create awareness and interact with their target audience.
  • Product launches: Companies use live streaming to launch new products, reveal new features and updates, and take pre-orders.

In general, live streaming is an effective communication tool for businesses.

Live streaming in large enterprises

For 20 years, we've been helping large companies with live streaming:

  • Meetings
  • Conferences
  • Town Halls
  • Quarterly meetings
  • Quarterly Meeting
  • investor relations
  • General Assemblies

Live streaming in small businesses

Medium and small businesses often use live streaming for:

  • Seminars (webinars)
  • Product launches
  • Panel discussions
  • Round tables

Pharmaceutical companies also use live streaming extensively for annual conferences.

Conferencing solutions are designed for real-time communication, enabling conversations over the internet with very little delay (typically between 15 and 150 ms). In practice, a distinction is often made between traditional live streaming (e.g. YouTube, Facebook and Vimeo) and conferencing platforms, but technologically both can be defined as live streaming.

Some well-known conferencing platforms for businesses include:

  • Zoom
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Google Hangouts
  • Whereby

Companies in the Nordics have implemented Microsoft on multiple levels, meaning that Microsoft Teams has become the defacto standard for video conferencing in Scandinavia. Unlike businesses, many universities, organizations and agencies have chosen to use Zoom instead, as the stability, quality and capabilities of the tool are on a different level than Teams.

We guarantee secure internal communication

Secure live streaming is a prerequisite for using streaming as a trustworthy communication platform in your business. We help your business achieve the right level of security for your content, ensuring a balance between security and a frictionless user experience.

We put a strong focus on security in our live productions. We have become a market leader in live production by delivering secure live streaming by following a 10-point plan for live video production:

  1. Thorough production planning
  2. Quality live streaming equipment that is thoroughly tested for bugs
  3. Wired and stable internet connection for live streaming
  4. UPS (backup power)
  5. Redundant systems for live streaming
  6. Experienced production team where the core team knows each other
  7. Testing live streaming before live
  8. Ongoing communication during live streaming
  9. Contingency plan for unexpected incidents
  10. Live stream monitoring

To ensure a live stream, there are a few technical precautions that should be taken:

  1. Use a secure live streaming platform.
  2. Use a secure protocol from the livestreaming encoder up to the platform.
  3. Encrypt the content of live streaming.
  4. Restrict who can watch the live stream, for example by embedding the stream on a protected intranet.

Additionally, a company should make it a point to never share trade secrets or other confidential information in a livestream. No matter how thoroughly a livestream is secured, you will never be able to completely safeguard against meetings being screen recorded and shared with third parties.

It goes without saying that different content requires different levels of security. Internal meetings should remain internal, which is why security should be a focus here. For a public product launch, on the other hand, it's often a better idea to prioritize ease of participation over security.

Frequently asked questions

Most live streaming services have a delay of around half a minute, which can be avoided if you want to compromise on quality, scaling and stability. Unlike traditional live streaming, you can also avoid latency by using video conferencing solutions such as Teams and Zoom.

In our experience, Teams is used in larger companies as Microsoft has a strong presence in the enterprise market. This is especially true in the Nordics. Zoom and Google Hangouts are used in younger and more tech-driven companies, as well as in the university environment. Since Teams is deeply integrated in all companies that use the Microsoft ecosystem, it is usually the first choice when it comes to communication between employees in a company. Zoom, on the other hand, works more as a standalone product that is often used for communication between companies and universities.

Most people have experienced fatigue from digital meetings on Zoom and Teams, for example. We've put together some tips to reduce fatigue when participating in digital meetings:

  • Minimize distractions by turning off notifications on your phone and closing tabs on your computer before the meeting starts.
  • Take breaks and stretch during meetings longer than 30 minutes.
  • Make sure you have an alternative chair to stand up and walk around if the meeting is longer than 30 minutes.
  • Plan a 15-minute buffer between meetings. Take a walk - maybe to the coffee machine - and get refreshed before the next meeting or task.
  • Limit the number of meetings: Avoid scheduling more than three meetings in a row.
  • Set clear agendas and goals for meetings and keep them so that meetings don't drag on.

In general, it's important to be aware that meetings that take place via video conferencing and live streaming can be even more tiring than face-to-face meetings.

Digital meetings, such as those held via traditional live streaming or video conferencing platforms, can be considered more environmentally friendly than face-to-face meetings in some ways. For example:

    • Less travel: With digital meetings, attendees don't have to travel to a physical location, which can reduce carbon emissions from transportation.
    • Reduce paper consumption: Many digital meetings are paperless, which can save trees and reduce paper pollution.
    • Lower energy consumption: Digital meetings typically require less energy than face-to-face meetings as they don't require the use of lights, heating or cooling and other resources.

However, it's important to note that digital meetings still have their own environmental impact. For example, the energy consumption of servers, computers and other devices used for digital meetings, as well as the manufacture and disposal of these devices, also have an environmental impact. In addition, certain digital meeting platforms can have their own environmental impact, such as the energy consumption of servers, data centers, etc.

Overall, digital meetings can be considered more environmentally friendly than physical meetings in many ways, but it's important to consider the entire lifecycle of the technology used and take steps to minimize the environmental impact.
